Sam brought home a serious cold from Fort Collins. Now we are all snotty and sneezing up a storm. It started with a wicked sore throat and terrible headache and body aches. I am 98% sure I had either the worst sinus headache known to man or it turned into my first migraine. If it was not a migraine I am completely taken aback by those who suffer from them. I put Avery down to bed early because I was dizzy, nauseous and thought my head was going to pop. Now Avery and I are snotty and sneezing while Sam's has progressed to coughing up crap. Avery seems much more content today with the snottiness, but the sore throat was hard on her. I had a had time getting her to eat anything for 2 days. On top of teething the past few days have been a real joy :) On top of it all, Sam worked nearly 30 hours this weekend, but gets tomorrow and Wednesday off. YEY!

Avery and I are excited for this weekend! We are heading south to ABQ to attend the Zoo BOO with the Weston fam! Then it is Halloween on Sunday! Avery has her "moo" down pat and is going to be the best little cow ever!

I meant to post this yesterday. Happy Birthday to the very best brother you could ask for. We miss you and cannot wait to see you this winter!

Wilson's Plight

Sequence of Events:

Wednesday 3PM: I was going for a walk with the dogs and Avery like we do several times a week. I let the dogs out and went to get Avery in the carrier and head out. Well, for whatever reason the dogs took off (probably a damn rabbit). I assumed they just went up ahead and would catch up to me on our walk. They never did. They occasionally do take off but return a few hours later.

Wednesday 7PM: Still no sign of the dogs. We looked and called and drove around. This was weird they had not returned and we had not received a phone call from someone who might have found them. We started to get a bit worried.

Wednesday 10PM: I heard something at the door and found Tasha alone and super freaked. I made Sam go out and whistle a few time for Wilson, but still no sign of him.

Thursday 7AM: Phone call from Brian (Thal Equine employee). He had found Wilson wandering around the Adobe barn and injured. We come to find he had 10 inch stick lodged in his chest (5 inches inside his body cavity). Sam rushed him to Smith Veterinary Hospital in town and Wilson went into surgery to have the stick taken out. Wilson had a rough time with anesthesia and apparently crashed post surgery, but they we able to pull him through. He was hooked up to IV fluids, doped on pain meds, and had a chest tube in place.

He probably had this stick stuck in him for most of Wednesday evening and Wednesday night. It is amazing he didn't just lie down to die. Even more amazing he made it just a few hundred yards away from home.

Friday AM: Staff seemed optimistic. Wilson looked terrible and refused food. Air is no longer being pulled off his chest tube, but fluid is.

Friday PM: He looked better and we were able to take him outside for a few minutes. He was very tired, but walking well and seemed more alert.

Saturday AM: Sam and I talk. Sam called and wanted the have a cytology run from the fluid being pulled. We decided if he was septic we will have to make a really hard decision. It came back negative for bacteria so we are pulling his chest tube and will pick him up @ 3 PM this afternoon. I think we will leave his catheter in in case we need to administer fluids from home.

A huge THANK YOU to Smith Veterinary Hospital. Their staff was gracious, attentive and gave us a whopping 50% discount. It is still an outrageous vet bill, but at least 1/2 of what it would have been.

It has been a very stressful few days and I am sure it will continue until he is eating and acting more like himself.

Fisher-Price Laugh & Learn CD Player

Sam got this for Avery's birthday (well I went shopping and labeled it from him). She is in love with this thing and if you have a little gal or guy about Avery's age I highly recommend it. She will sit there and press the buttons to make it play the songs and rock back and forth until the song is over. She will repeat this over and over and over. I think the longest stretch has been about 40 minute, no kidding! I keep waiting for her to get bored of it, but she comes back to it several times a day. I hope it sticks because it makes dinner prep a heck of a lot easier!

Tony and Kit are currently visiting and Avery has really taken to Kit! Which is great because last May Avery wouldn't even look at poor Kit without going into a crying fit. Now Avery can't seem to get enough of her. She even has warmed up to Tony! It is actually quite entertaining to see a 50 something year old get on his hands and knees and play chase with Avery. She has been having a great time with them! We are going down to Albuquerque this weekend to see some of the balloon festivities with them as well. It should be fun!
On a total side note...today at the library story time, Avery went over to another mom and gave her the biggest hug. She literally stood hugging this mom for a solid 2 minutes, then she must have noticed me getting a little jealous and came back to me and gave me a great big hug. Such a stinking sweetie.

Mom! Why can't I get to the other side!

it's fall!

The nights are getting cooler and last week the days only made it into the 70's! It was back up to the 80's today, but I am getting a feel of some cooler weather and it is SO NICE! Last week Avery was visited by her Gigi and Grandpa Rick and she had fun window shopping and playing with them. They even joined us at library story time. Fun stuff!

Today, Avery and I packed up and headed southeast to Moriarty to the McCall's Pumpkin Patch! We met the Weston's there and also went with Diana & Johnny and Kristin & Russell. It was fun. It would have been more fun if Avery was not in such a terrible mood as of late. This whole teething thing is out of control! Poor baby only gets a brake about 2 days of every week. Also, Avery has decided to scream when ever she sees or hear Donald. She eventually warms up to him, but every time we see him it is the same thing.

We did enjoy a bit of the corn maze, playing in the corn box, some lunch, farm animals and a hayride. Overall, a nice day. We always LOVE seeing the Westons, even if Avery has some irrational fear of Donald.

Our Big One Year Old!

It seems like yesterday we were just bringing our little princess home. We were feeding her every two hours and in the midst of endless diaper changes!

Now she is toddling and babbling and into everything! She is stubborn and flirtatious and coy and silly. She makes us smile every single day and it is truly hard to imagine our lives before she made her debut.
